Qualification to be Awarded: Secondary Vocational Qualification in Ship Deck Operation / Secondary Vocational Qualification in Ship Deck Operation
Aim of the Programme:
The aim of the programme is to train a deck rating who will be able to perform the following duties: safe operation of deck equipment and mechanisms; participation in safe navigational watchkeeping, mooring and anchoring operations, preventive maintenance and repair works of deck mechanisms, and cargo operations on board ships; steering the vessel; maintaining and cleaning shipboard spaces; performing rigging works; carrying out painting works on board; and ensuring safety on board the vessel.
Admission Requirement:
Completed general education.
Medical Certificate:
A medical certificate issued by a medical institution designated by the Maritime Transport Agency of Georgia.
Upon graduation, the graduate will be awarded an educational document confirming the completion of the programme, as well as a certificate confirming the completion of practical training. Afterward, the graduate must undergo certification and pass an examination at the Maritime Transport Agency of the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia in order to obtain a qualification certificate / certificate of competency.
Employment Opportunities for Graduates:
In accordance with the Law of Georgia on Seafarers’ Education and Certification, after meeting the seafarer certification requirements and obtaining the required recognized seagoing service, a person holding a Level IV vocational qualification in Ship Deck Operation may, upon receiving the qualification certificate, be employed as a deck rating on merchant, passenger, port auxiliary, fishing and other types of vessels. The graduate may also be employed in public or private institutions related to the field of maritime transport services and operation.
