
Introduction to the Profession
The module introduces students to the profession of an Able Seafarer Deck (AS-D), its scope, and key responsibilities. Students gain an understanding of the structure of the maritime sector, different types of ships, and the specific characteristics of the working environment on board.
The module focuses on the professional duties, work ethics, and discipline expected of seafarers. Students are provided with information on employment opportunities and pathways for professional development. The importance of international and national maritime regulations is also addressed throughout the learning process.
The module helps students understand the role of onboard practical training in their professional preparation. Students learn about seafarers’ rights, employment relations, and the basic rules of conduct on board. Particular attention is given to tolerance, teamwork, and effective communication in a diverse working environment.
The module also covers career planning and the preparation of documentation required for employment. Upon completion of the module, students will have a clearer understanding of the key requirements for entering the profession, working as a seafarer, and pursuing further professional development.
